Every year my family plans a little vacation away at a cabin and I was so excited when I got a call from Laura and her mom about shooting her wedding in Grand Forks, ND. Normally this would be about a 5 hour drive for me, but luckily I was ending my vacation the day before her wedding and it happened to only be 3 hours from them. I got up early and made the 3 hour drive through the Minnesota farm land and crossed over into North Dakota. I started my day in Thompson, ND at Laura’s family home. We had a great morning photographing her details and those special moments between her family. I couldn’t help but think that someday this will be me with my own daughters. Laura and family are so close and it’s so evident in the photos from their special day. I was tearing up all day just capturing them through my lens. This is what I live for! Documenting these gorgeous stories!

We proceeded to St. Jude Catholic Church in Thompson. Such a special church since so many in her family have been married there. They had a touching ceremony with many laughs and tears of joy! Afterwards we went to University Park near the UND campus. Such a gorgeous spot for wedding photos. We had the most amazing light for wedding party pictures! The soft pinks and baby’s breath looked gorgeous with the park’s views. I was also in love with they guys bow ties and suspenders! Totally a classic look!

Finally we spend the evening at the Alerus Center in North Dakota. I have to say my mouth dropped when I entered the ball room. Laura and her mom did an amazing job with the decor colors and theme. I loved all the florals provided by Sadies Flowers. Simple elegance done amazingly well! Enjoy all the photo goodness from Laura & Ricky’s day…

Kristen Jarrett - Beautiful wedding photography as always! Bride and groom look so relaxed and at ease in their images, a hard feat to accomplish on what can be such a busy and high energy day. Wonderful work!

I had such an amazing maternity session with M in my studio. When she first contacted me she expressed to me that she really wanted a light, airy session, but with a few sexy photos snuck in there. I would say that we totally achieved that look! I am always amazed at how beautiful women are during pregnancy. M was just glowing during her session and was so excited for this little miracle baby to join their family.

We started out our day with hair and make up coming to the studio! who doesn’t love a little pampering! The next hour after that we took time to photograph M in a bunch of different looks and angles, all the while laughing because her baby boy kept moving in awkward positions making her tummy look a little bumpy, but as you can see, he did cooperate for the majority of the maternity photos!

Below is just a small sampling of her beautiful pictures! It was so hard to narrow down just a few of my favorites to blog as she looked gorgeous in all of the photos! I know a lot of women teeter on whether they want to capture their body while pregnant but I can’t stress enough at what a keepsake these photos are. This is such a short period in your life relatively speaking (I know it seems long during it, ha ha!) Every session is so different and I want my clients to be comfortable 100% of the time. You definitely don’t have to bare all your skin in maternity photos. So whether you are fully clothed, or totally nude, Maternity pictures can be such a cherished moment captured. If you are reading this post now and wondering if you should schedule maternity photos, contact me and lets discuss what would be the right maternity session for you. I’d love to work with you and style your maternity session!

Amanda - this is a stunning momma and beautiful session. Your studio is amazing.

Last week I had the privilege of mentoring another photographer in my Minneapolis studio on newborn photography.  Mia and Caleb were our models for the day.  Mia definitely gave us a run for our money but that gives me a great opportunity to show my students how to still capture great photos despite a baby that may not be in a photo mood, ha ha!  Babies all have different personalities and they can be very unpredictable.  So being able to capture beautiful photos despite a little fussiness can be hard to come by.  This is why it’s so important to hire a true professional to capture this priceless memory that only lasts what seems for a split second.  Before you know it your baby will be a few months old and start losing that newborn look.  It’s best to photograph your newborn before the first 12 days of life.  This is when they are the most sleepy and moldable for different positions.  Okay enough blabbing, on to the photo goodness!

Priscilla Davis - I love the variety in colors and backdrops! Everything looks amazing :)

I had such a delightful session with Balen this morning in my Minneapolis studio.  The light was absolutely perfect, softly filtered by some passing clouds and of course as you can see my subject was absolutely adorable!  Balen had the most perfect, creamy skin!  I had way too much fun posing him this morning in all sorts of props.
